I'm using a Ronson breadmaker of some description which I purchased used for $15 from someone over Lifeinvader Marketplace. I've drilled a hole in the side through to the bread pan to stick a barbecue thermometer in and I've removed the glass from the lid to point an Ozito variable speed heat gun in.
It's quite easy to control the heat by simply turning the power up and down on the heat gun. I usually keep a fire extinguisher on hand just in case but I haven't needed it yet.
With dense beans such as from Ethiopia, the key appears to be aiming for a Rate of Rise of around 10 degrees and then backing the heat gun off a fraction at first crack and developing for about 1:50.
